TRAVELING WITH THREE ALPHA FEMALES
Two years after my first trip, I once again travelled to Africa, this time accompanied by three extraordinary women: my wife, Bennett, long time co-worker, Debra Campbell, and Jamie Davies, the founder of Schramsberg Vineyards in Calistoga in the northern Napa Valley. As one can tell from the title, I had my hands full and my brain occupied: all three women are highly educated with saber-sharp wits.
The trip started in Zambia at the Sausage Tree Camp along the Zambezi River, followed by a brief stay in Livingston at the River Club, and then by camps in the Okavango Delta and on the Makgadikgadi Pan.
Far more than other works, this one is truly a ‘photo documentary’— many photos were included for the benefit of my fellow travelers, in particular Jamie, who wanted to use the work to ‘tell the story’ to other vintners.
The creative effort focused on complementing each image with a custom ‘mat’ color, creating a look of a framed image. As was done for Worth the Price of Admission, the print border includes date, time, location and camera/shooting information. ‘Cut lines’ are shown so that this information can be removed from the print prior to actual framing.
